PPM to mg/L Calculator

1. What is a PPM to mg/L Calculator?

Definition: This tool converts parts per million (PPM) to milligrams per liter (mg/L) for a substance in water, considering solute density, and calculates molarity in various units if molar mass is provided.

Purpose: Useful for water quality analysis, chemical solutions, and scientific research.

2. How Does the Converter Work?

Conversion formulas:

\[ \text{mg/L} = \frac{\text{PPM} \times \text{Density (kg/m³)}}{1000} \] \[ \text{Molarity (M)} = \frac{\text{mg/L}}{\text{Molar Mass (g/mol)} \times 1000} \]

Notes:

  • Enter PPM to calculate mg/L and molarity (if molar mass is provided).
  • Density units can be selected (default kg/m³).
  • Molar mass units can be selected (default g/mol).
  • Molarity can be displayed in M, mM, µM, nM, pM, fM, aM, zM, or yM (default M).
  • For water (density ≈ 1000 kg/m³), 1 PPM ≈ 1 mg/L.

3. Importance of Conversion

Details: Accurate conversions are critical for environmental monitoring, dosing chemicals, and understanding solution concentrations.

4. Using the Converter

Tips: Enter PPM, select density unit (default 1000 kg/m³ for water), and optionally add molar mass with its unit. Choose a molarity unit for the result. Results show PPM, mg/L, and molarity in the selected unit.
